What new lock installation actually involves

Installing a lock is more than driving in a few screws. The bolt has to line up with the strike plate, the backset has to match the holes already in the door, and the screws into the frame need to bite into the stud behind it, not just the trim. Get any of that wrong and the lock binds, the door won't latch, or the whole thing pulls loose with a hard shove. We handle the boring details so the lock works the first time and keeps working.

We install on wood, fiberglass, and metal doors, and we'll cut a clean new bore if your door has never had a deadbolt. If you want every lock on the house to open with one key, we can key everything alike during the install. We also set up smart locks and keypad deadbolts and walk you through the app before we leave.

When homeowners call us for new locks

The most common reason is a move. You don't know who has a copy of the old keys, the previous owner, their cleaner, a neighbor, the agent, so swapping the locks the week you get the keys is just smart. New construction and remodels are next, where the door is hung but no real hardware is on it yet. After that it's wear and weather. Conejo Valley sun and the dry-then-damp swings beat up cheap hardware, and a lock that grinds or sticks is on its way out.

We also get calls after a break-in attempt, when a lock is loose enough to feel unsafe, or when someone wants to step up from a flimsy builder lock to a Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolt that actually resists kicking. If you're not sure whether you need a new lock or just a tune-up, we'll tell you straight.

What to expect from CLS

FAQ

New Lock Installation — Questions

Straight answers. If your question isn't here, just call — we're happy to talk it through.

It depends on how many doors, what kind of lock, and whether your door already has the right holes drilled. A straightforward deadbolt swap is on the low end; a smart lock on a door that needs a fresh bore costs more. We give you a free, exact quote before we start, and the price you hear is the price you pay.
